Stage 1: Leadership and Co-ordination

Ensuring a joined up approach

Whatever role you perform or responsibilities you hold, local government is best placed to take the lead in co-ordinating and delivering cultural and sports planning in the local area. It has the skills and experience in community consultation and knowledge of local values and aspirations. This, combined with the necessary regulatory and development powers, will ensure effective delivery of individual projects.

To sustain a sound governance structure which harnesses the opportunities for culture and sport, local government needs to play a:

a. champion role,

b. co-ordinating role, and

c. delivery role.
